How Smart Forms work

From one sentence to a signed PDF on the case.

Six steps, all inside LawDesk: create the document, arrange it, send it securely, the client fills it in and signs, you get notified, then you approve it or ask for changes.

Step 1

Create a form, with or without AI

Choose Draft with AI and describe the document, or start with a blank page. Ready-made types like Client Intake, NDA and Fee Agreement fill in the name for you.

  • AI writes the wording and the boxes the client fills in
  • Start blank when you want full control
  • Right-to-left languages supported
Step 2

Drag and drop in the editor

The editor shows the real document. Drag a box to where it belongs in the text, click any sentence to change it, and mark boxes as required.

  • Nine box types, including date, list, file upload and signature
  • Boxes sit inside the text, so clients read a document, not a long form
  • Undo, and preview it as the client will see it
Step 3

Send it securely

Every form has its own secure link. Choose how it reaches the client and who can open it.

  • Copy the secure link: a random 32-character code nobody can guess
  • Email it from LawDesk with your own message
  • Send it from a case: several forms in one email, each answer saved to that case
  • Ask for a PIN before the form opens
  • Set an end date, after which the link is closed
  • Keep the form as a draft to turn the link off
Step 4

The client fills it in and signs

The client sees the questions next to a live copy of the document that fills in as they type. They sign on the screen and send it.

  • Works on phones and computers
  • Required answers are checked before sending
  • Their answers become the finished document
Step 5

Both sides get a copy

As soon as the client sends it, the client and the firm each get a record.

The client

An email with their own copy of the finished document as a PDF.

The firm

A notice in the app for staff, an email with the PDF to the firm admin and partners, and a New count on the Submissions tab.

Step 6

Approve it, or ask for changes

Open the answers as a document or as a list. Accept it and save it to a case, or ask the client to fix certain answers.

  • Tick the answers that need changing and add a note
  • The client gets an email link that reopens their form, with those answers marked and the rest kept
  • Every earlier version is kept in the history
  • Download the signed PDF at any time

Try it yourself

Fill in the live demo retainer agreement. It takes about a minute, and you do not need to sign up.
